Innovation Award

The Innovation Award is provided to the organisation whose work indicates significant promise for achieving effective outcomes in preventing drug abuse but which may lack the evaluated evidence.

The 2008 Award was awarded to I Create My Own Future Myself, Vilnius Police Club for Children and Youth, Vilnius, Lithuania

Although it is easier to deal with juvenile delinquency by focusing on children and youth who have violated the law using traditional methods, this project believes that the only truly effective method is to involve police in intensive preventive work with young people. To this end a unique Youth Club was established through the initiative of the Vilnius Police.

The Runners Up were:

• East Africa Regional Youth Network, Kenya for their “Comprehensive Counselling and Referral Programme
• The Houston Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Texas, USA for their “Student 2 student (S2S) Peer Mentor Program.
